About these numbers
Good Air shows every city on the US AQI, calculated from the latest hourly readings of government monitors: Singapore's NEA, Malaysia's Department of Environment and Indonesia's Ministry of Environment and BMKG. Official headline indices (PSI, API, ISPU) use longer averages, so they rise and fall more slowly than the hourly numbers here. For Indonesia's own index, see What is ISPU? or the Indonesian-language pages, kualitas udara Indonesia.
How to protect yourself
- Wear a well-fitted N95 or FFP2 mask outdoors when the air is Unhealthy. Surgical and cloth masks don't stop fine smoke particles.
- Keep windows closed and run a HEPA air purifier in the room you sleep in.
- Move exercise indoors. See what to do at each AQI level.
- Keep children, older relatives and anyone with asthma or heart disease indoors as much as possible.
