What do IMD's yellow, orange and red alerts mean?

IMD colour-codes its warnings by the action it wants people to take. Yellow means be aware: weather may disrupt daily life. Orange means be prepared: severe weather is likely, with possible disruption to transport and power. Red means take action: extremely severe weather is expected and authorities may order evacuations or closures. Green means no warning.
